As for 89001 itself, this would lead a solitary life on the East Coast Mainline, but its unique nature would see it fall in and out of service due to faults and failures, and despite being faced with scrapping on multiple occasions, this remarkable machine has endured, and now prepares to enter a new life in charter service with LSL.
