This experiment simulates the extreme pressure of an asteroid strike and ejection from Mars by sandwiching microbes between metal plates and then firing a projectile at them at close to 500 kilometers per hour.
The research lends support to the idea that life jettisoned off world could spread to and seed new worlds by clinging to space rocks.
